Anyone who slept through Friday night’s thunderstorms woke up better rested than I did. It seemed like it was one thunder and lightning storm after another which lasted past midnight and kept me kind of on edge wondering if the lightning would strike some trees or a house.

I was surprised the electricity didn’t go off, but apparently  Excel and Wright Hennepin are ready to handle those types of storms.  I don’t know how much rain we got but it had to be substantial. Buffalo had something like an inch and a half which will help ease the drought.

My neighbor, Hawthorn came back from duck hunting Saturday morning with four wood ducks and said if he was a better shot he would have had more. He has a Portuguese retriever, Tobie,  which is proving to be a great retriever as well as an excellent hunting dog and a great family pet. He looks similar to an American Water Spaniel. It’s fun to watch him run around in his pen and play with another friend of the family, a black lab.

The Vikings finally came alive in Sunday’s game with the Carolina Panthers in the third quarter when their defense scored a 51-yard TD on a picked up fumble by D.J. Wonnum’s. It was all the Vikings after that with Harrison Smith getting four sacks and Justin Jefferson two TDs on some great passing by Kirk Cousins in the 21-13 win. Former 9 year Viking veteran, Adam Thielen, from Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, looked like Carolina’s best wide receiver and is well on his way to earn his 3-year, 25 million-dollar contract. He was fun to watch as a Viking who was a walk-on after playing football for Mankato State and he looked great with the Panthers.

This was the Vikings first win after going 3-4 and they will play the Kansas City Chiefs Sun., Oct. 8 starting at 3:25 p.m.
