The Maple Lake football team was overwhelmed by the undefeated Eden Valley-Watkins at Irish Stadium Friday, Oct. 6.

The Eagles, who are the favorite to win the district this year, scored four touchdowns and a safety in the first quarter on their way to a 44-0 win over the Irish.

Maple Lake held the Eagles scoreless in the second quarter and gave up a touchdown a piece in the third and fourth quarters, but they just couldn’t get the ball into the endzone themselves.

A positive was Logan Salmela’s 89 yards rushing. He also completed an eight-yard pass from Irish quarterback Luke Goelz early in the game. Another positive, Joseph Aasen completed a 12-yard pass from Goelz.

The Irish will have another opportunity to make a notch in the win column coming up on Friday, Oct. 13 when they take on St. Cloud Cathedral at St. John’s University at 7 p.m. Cathedral is 2-4 with losses to Warroad, EV-W, Holdingford and Osakis and wins over Paynesville and Royalton.
