Brute’s Bleat – Jan 17, 2024

It took almost until the middle of January before we were slammed by some cold weather, but not much snow. It was 6-8 below zero when I headed for the Messenger office on Monday, Martin Luther King Day, without much wind. As for snow this area doesn’t have enough snow for making good snow angels! That’s fine with me. There was a pop up fish house on the pond off the south side of County Road 9 near Buffalo Saturday and two anglers were standing outside with an auger. That’s the only fishing activity I saw, but I didn’t check east Maple which I’m sure had some anglers. Ramsey Lake’s north end was void of houses, so I’m guessing the ice isn’t safe from the south access.

About the only wildlife I’ve seen in this cold weather were Swans, which looked very majestic because of their large size and wing spans as they flew in small flocks looking for food.

The Maple Lake school’s parking lot was filled to overflowing Sunday morning by the wrestling fans that were following individual wrestlers from schools in Howard Lake, Rocori, Kimball, St. Cloud, Becker, Albany, Holdingford, Buffalo, Sauk Rapids, and Maple Lake/Annandale. According to my informant 200 wrestlers were involved.
