Larry E. McCarty, Maple Lake

Larry E. McCarty, age 80, of Maple Lake, died Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at his home.

A Remembrance Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Larry Earl McCarty was born February 3, 1943, in Marion, Kansas to Gene and Vera (Keazer) McCarty. He grew up in the Marion area along with his four siblings. He was a 1961 graduate of Marion High School. Larry honorably served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He crossed the equator twice while aboard the USS Providence. On April 11, 1966, he was united in marriage to Karen Chilson in National City, California. They made their home in San Diego while Larry served in the Navy. Upon his discharge, they moved to Kansas. In 1975, they moved to Lyle, Minnesota along with their three children before moving to Buffalo, Minnesota. In 1990, Larry and Karen relocated to their current home on Mink Lake. Over the years, Larry worked as a welder for various companies, retiring in 2016.

Larry was a member of the NRA, Buffalo American Legion Post #270, Maple Lake VFW Post #7664, Minnesota Trapping Association, and National Trapping Association. Larry was an avid outdoorsman, whether it be hunting, trapping, fishing, or simply being in the presence of nature. He enjoyed his cats, joking around, and giving a hard time to his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Karen of Maple Lake; children, Michelle McCarty of Minneapolis and Monica (Rick) Carlson of Maple Lake; daughter-in-law, Leslie McCarty of Annandale; grandchildren, Coley (Shane) Hill, Kezia (Jeremy) Etem, Anjeanine Carlson (Andy Puffer), Nicole Carlson, Amorae Larson (Philip Gekeler), Kayonna Carlson (Michael Erlitz), and Jaxon McCarty; great-grandchildren, Jayda, Caleb, Ryder, Adrionna, Annika, and Margo; and nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael; siblings, Peggy Hett, Dorothy Stubby, and Patricia Adams, and Donald McCarty; and many furry friends.
