Minnesota’s legislators are back in session for 2024 and It’s my wish they learned their lesson last year when they spent more money than was in the treasury, including a huge surplus fund that should have been given back to the taxpayers. Gov. Walz dished out a paltry fund to the taxpayers, far less than what he promised earlier. Politicians are quick to make promises and I hope the Minnesota votes give them the boot come election time.

Daughter Anna and I were returning from Buffalo about 1 p.m. Sunday when she spotted a fish flopping on the ice next to a fish house. She couldn’t identify the fish from the highway, but it was large enough to catch her eye so it had to be a Northern, bass, or a rough fish. There were other houses on the lake’s main body of water as well as out from the access off Hwy. 37. Keep in mind spearing is over for the season this weekend.

I’ve noticed a donkey on a farm on the way to Monticello for a number of years that never seems to venture very far from it’s shelter. The animal seems so lonely to me standing in the shelter or leaving it only to eat. I hope it likes it’s solitude! It‘s probably better than being a pack animal for some out-fitter. The Swans are still feeding in a corn field on the east side of Hwy. 25, but the flock is getting smaller.

This year’s Super Bowl had a commercial with the Budweiser Clydesdale horses making a comeback, something I hope Budweiser continues to do in future Super Bowls. They may be hard to maintian, but I think I’ve drunk enough Bud to help them find some fresh hay! As for the game itself I got kind of bombed out watching the pre-game hoopala, It was a great game defensively from the starting kickoff and picked up intensity for me when it went into overtime. I liked the ref’s comment when he announced, “this will be a new game,” before the coin toss which the 49ers won. I wasn’t the only one who felt the 49ers made a poor choice when they took the ball in the overtime rather than go on defense. They went ahead with a field goal but then the Chiefs came back when Mahomes found Mecole Hardman for a walk-off touchdown on Sunday to deliver a 25-22 defeat to the San Francisco 49ers in a thriller. For the Chiefs this was their second Super Bowl win in successive years and they’re already talking about a three-peat next year… Maybe I was just jealous, but I felt the camera man spent too much time on tight end Travis Kelce’s girlfriend, pop sensation Taylor Swift, but maybe that’s what the viewers wanted.
