It’s that time of year again when Maple Lake students and staff celebrate I Love to Read Month with activities to promote reading. This year’s theme is Splish Splash It’s a Reading Bash and kicked off on Thursday, Feb. 1 with Rise and Read (a reading Luau). More than 300 parents and students got up early for donuts and a bit of reading fun before school.
Before the months out, students will enjoy dress up days, a hallway decorating contest, and plenty of opportunity to read. This year, students will participate in a program called One Book One School to help encourage reading at home, Media Specialist Sarah Thomas said. All Maple Lake students will receive the same book and each weeknight will be asked to read one chapter with a family member. The next day at school they will have a discussion in their classroom about what they read, Thomas said.
MLE staff went all out decorating the reading room for I Love to Read Month. This year’s theme is Splish Splash It’s a Reading Bash.
