St. Timothy Catholic School in Maple Lake will send three student representatives to the Big Bang Catholic STEM Regional Science Fair at Visitation High School in Mendota Heights on April 13th. Students in the sixth through eighth grades were judged and selected on Thursday, Feb. 15th at the school’s local science fair. Prizes were given to the top three projects in each grade level and the first-place winner from each grade will advance to represent St. Timothy School at the Big Bang Fair. Thirteen volunteer judges had the difficult task of interviewing all the students and selecting who would go on. For the sixth grade, Joseph Nelson finished third, Elliot VanHoorik was second and advancing to the regional fair with his project about lubricants titled “That’s Pretty Slick” is Avery Becker. Evelyn Elsenpeter finished third for the seventh-grade class, Sam Donnett was second and Eve Lang will move on as the first-place winner with her project about optical illusions titled “Now You See It, Now You Don’t.” Gemma Meyer claimed third place for the eighth-grade class, Leo Lang was second and Alex Sis will move on to the regional fair for finishing first with his project titled “Water is Weird.”
St. Timothy School historically has done well at the Big Bang competition. In 2021 St. Timothy student Bridget Donnett took home the top-prize and won a trip to the Vatican Observatory in Arizona.
Eve Lang won first place for the seventh-grade class and will advance to the Big Bang Fair.
Avery Becker won first place for the sixth-grade class and will advance to the Big Bang Fair.
