More Easter fun in store this week with exciting events
By Brenda Erdahl
Snow, wind, and the imminent threat of the biggest snowstorm of the season didn’t deter a good-sized crowd from turning out for the Maple Lake Lions annual Pancake Breakfast and Candy Scramble, Sunday, March 24.
After a hearty meal of scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage, bacon and French toast at the high school cafeteria, children ages 0-12 were let loose on a generous spread of candy that took over much of the gymnasium floor.
In addition to the many pounds of candy given away, the Lions also raffled off six brand-new bikes of different kid-sizes so at least one child in every age group has a new bike to ride once all the snow melts. The Easter Bunny was also available Sunday for pictures.
The Easter fun continues this week with various local events leading up to the holiday on Sunday, March 31.
Farside Spring Bake and Craft Sale
The Farside 4-H Club will host its second annual Spring Bake and Craft Sale on Saturday, March 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Maple Lake Township Hall. This is an event for the entire family. Children will enjoy petting the live alpacas, getting creative at the free make-and-take craft station and of course having their picture taken with the Easter Bunny. Parents will find crafts and baked goods homemade by 4-H members and local vendors including sourdough bread, tea, alpaca fiber products, pottery, goat milk soap, maple syrup, raw honey, jewelry and more. Spooky Brew Coffee from Maple Lake will also be on hand selling fresh brewed coffee. “It is a great way to get some Easter treats and support our club,” organizers said.
Annandale Easter Egg Hunt
The Annandale Lions Club will hold its 56th annual Easter Egg Hunt at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 30, at the municipal park. All children and their parents are invited. There will be prizes for each egg found, candy for all and bikes given away for age groups. Consider donating a food shelf item for the local food shelf and used eyeglasses for the Lions Eyeglass Foundation.
A trio of tikes eye the banquet of candy spread out before them as they await the start of the Lion’s annual Candy Scramble, Sunday, March 24.
