The Irish track and field team traveled to Rockford on Thursday, April 4 for its first outdoor meet of the season.
Although six schools including Maple Lake attended, this early outdoor meet was treated like a time trial rather than an official meet. Coaches timed their own athletes and there were no printed results, Maple Lake Coach Ben Youngs said.
The Irish still saw some impressive performances. Among them was Carter Courtright’s personal record in the discus throw and it wasn’t that far from the school record either.
In the high jump event, Reese Hartkopf jumped 4 feet, 8 inches and Avery Como jumped 4 feet, 6 inches; Carmyn Anderson looked strong in the 4×800-meter relay; Nick Lind won the 1600 and 3200-meter runs with “solid” times and Kingsley Okoro and Luke Goelz posted “nice times” in the 100-meter dash, Youngs said.
Gus Riviere, in his first 300-meter hurdle race, already hit the 45 mark, which is a fast time to start a career with, Youngs said.
