I errored in last week’s Bleat about Tessa Johnson, a freshman guard for South Carolina Gamecocks, when I had her scoring 10 when the correct number was 19 and I referred to her as a sophomore. I did have it correct that she played her high school basketball at St. Michael-Albertville. My apologies.

The docks were in on Maple, Cedar, Buffalo and Ramsey Lakes and the word was the Crappies were biting on Cedar. Local angler Roland Hegle was fishing with a friend over the weekend in the bluff country of south-eastern Minnesota for trout using Nightcrawlers for bait. He said it was a real pretty area and his friend had an in with a fellow who owned land on the river. He gave them permission to cross his land, about 300 yards and they proceeded to catch some brown trout, nothing huge, but lots of fun. Last week after the weekend’s rain I noticed the night crawlers were on the sidewalk and my driveway, not big, but definitely nighties.

I saw the photo of three bears and their mother on TV over the weekend crossing a highway. The DNR said that was an early sighting because of the mild winter. There have been a few road kill skunks, one between ML and Buffalo, also a possibility of the mild winter.

Steve Loch said they had good viewing of the solar eclipse a week ago Monday when they travelled to Arkansas. The rare event was an astronomical experience like no other. Monday’s eclipse was unusually accessible to millions of people. He said the town they stopped at had put out a lot of energy to attract people, but he felt they hiked up the prices for motels, etc. too high. Rather than thousands of people they ended up attracting less than a thousand.
Don Dittberner said he and his wife, Ada, had a great weekend of fishing Crappies, taking limit on two different lakes in Ottertail County. The one shown above was a 15 incher while the others were 11 or better. He said they found them on the edges of weeds, but wasn’t impressed with some other anglers who moved in on him when they saw Don and his wife were catching fish. That doesn’t bode well for Ottertail anglers, where I grew up, and I hope it was an isolated case.
