Irish athletes set personal bests at track meet

The Maple Lake High School boys and girls track and field teams traveled to Norwood Young America on Tuesday, April 9 where they competed against four other schools.

Highlights include Senior Nick Lind’s double-win with personal bests in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs with times of 4:53.57 and 10:30.61 respectively.

Avery Lee won the shot put with a personal best throw of 31 feet, 3 inches and carter Courtright finished second in the shot and discus with throws of 40 feet, 8 inches and 131 feet, 3 inches respectively.

Abby Torblaa tied for first place in the pole vault with a height of 7 feet, 6 inches.

“We also had a lot of solid relay performances and some other good efforts,” Head Coach Ben Youngs said.

The Irish are competing without a number of key runners due to injuries, but Coach Youngs expects them to be back and contributing soon.

Teamwise, the Irish boys finished fourth with 52.5 points and the girls were also fourth with 38 points. Sibley East won the boys competition with 86.5 points and Tri-City United won the girls with 96 points.

On Thursday, April 18, the Irish host a triangular at 4:30 p.m. On Monday, April 22, the Irish host an invitational at 4 p.m.
