Library archival corner Seven Generations of the Holmberg Family Part IV

By Sue Sylvester

In Part III Walter and Veronica (Lacina) Holmberg’s family history was covered.  This last episode will cover the 6th and 7th generations of the Holmberg family.  The following were sources I used for this story, Pat and David Holmberg, Lois (Holmberg) Carlson, birth, census records, plat maps, and property abstracts.

David and Patricia (Stumpf) Holmberg

Pat Stumpf and David Holmberg were Maple Lake high school sweet hearts.  David had been working on the farm when he was drafted into the US Army in 1966.  He served in Germany until January 1968.  On May 11, 1968 David James Holmberg married Patricia Ann Stumpf at the church of St. Timothy in Maple Lake.  Patricia’s parents were Donald and Bernice (Demarais) Stumpf.  Pat was born June 17, 1949 in St. Cloud, Stearns County, Minnesota.

David and Pat have three children:

1.  Lynn Marie born March 22, 1969 in Wright County, Minnesota.  She married Brian Earl Jensen on September 21, 1991.  They currently reside in Big Lake.

2.  Laurie Ann born September 19, 1970 in Wright County, Minnesota.  She married Ronald Rumsey on October 9, 1993.  They built a home in Albion Township on the Donald and Bernice Stumpf farm land.

3.  Lois Jane born October 16, 1973 in Wright County, Minnesota.  Lois married Jason Scott Carlson on April 24, 1999.  Jake and Lois (Holmberg) Carlson are the next generation to own the Holmberg land in Chatham Township. They live in Buffalo.

David and Pat did not follow the path of previous Holmberg generations.  David and Pat rented a small house from Duane Bryant just north of town.  They next bought a trailer and put it on Stumpf property just east of Don and Bernice Stumpf’s home.  Finally in 1975, they built the home they still reside in just a little east of the trailer they had lived in.  David embarked on a career path of highway construction.  He worked with asphalt, put in water and sewer lines.  The last company he worked for was Midwest Asphalt which he retired from in 2009.  Pat first worked at Control Data in Plymouth, then after Laurie’s birth she catered with Marge Cavanaugh and worked as a cook at St. Timothy’s school.  Then she worked at Cedar Lake Engineering for 13 years. Finally, she worked at Loon Photographic until she retired in 2004.
