Two county commissioner seats are up for re-election this year including District 2 which represents Maple Lake and some of the surrounding area.

The Wright County Elections Office announced last week that the filing period is open for five Wright County elected positions until Tuesday, June 4.

Darek Vetsch currently represents District 2 which includes the cities of Clearwater, Maple Lake, Monticello and the townships of Clearwater, Maple Lake precincts 1A and 1B, Monticello and Silver Creek.

The District 5 county commissioner seat and three supervisor positions on the Wright County Soil and Water Conservation District Board (Districts 2, 4 and 5) are also open for re-election. All these positions are for four-year terms.

The District 5 county commissioner seat is currently held by Michael Kaczmarek who represents the cities of Cokato, Delano, Howard Lake, Montrose, Waverly and the townships of Cokato, Franklin, French Lake, Marysville, Middleville, Stockholm, Victor and Woodland.

According to the Wright County Elections Office, those interested in filing for any of the elected positions can do so from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Taxpayer Services front window at the Wright County Government Center located at 3650 Braddock Ave. NE, Suite 1400, Buffalo.

If more than two candidates file for a position, they will contest one another in the primary election August 13 with the top two vote-getters moving on to the Nov. 5 general elections. If two or fewer candidates file, they automatically move on to the Nov. 5 general election.
