The Maple Lake softball team suffered a shut-out loss to Kimball at home early last week then fell to Eden Valley-Watkins in a doubleheader on Thursday, April 25.
Kimball 7, Maple Lake 0
The Cubs took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, then scored another in the top of the fifth, but their big inning didn’t come until the top of the seventh when they scored five runs to solidify their win.
Allie Walhowe pitched all seven innings for the Irish. She gave up six hits, seven runs and struck out three.
Eden Valley-Watkins 15, Maple Lake 3
The Irish struck first in the top of the first inning when Ashley Gaffaney hit a grounder to third base to score Nora Goelz. The Eagles answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of that inning. They added three more in the bottom of the second and one more in the bottom of the third, but their big eight-run inning came in the bottom of the fourth.
Maple Lake’s big inning was in the top of the fifth when they scored two runs. Goelz opened the inning with a single on a ground ball to shortstop. A Tessa Pribyl single on a fly ball to left field scored Hageman and Gaffaney. Gaffaney, Charley Sailer and Taylor Walhowe also had hits in that inning.
Walhowe pitched just over three innings. She gave up 10 hits, 15 runs and threw four strikes.

The Eagles led off with two runs in the top of the second inning to take the lead.
