The Maple Lake track and field team did well at its annual Maple Lake Lions Relay Meet on Thursday, April 25th.

The Irish collected two first place finishes and multiple runner ups at this fun event where everyone competes as part of a relay team.

Among the winning teams was the girls 100-100-200-400 team of Violet Tulenchink, Reese Hartkopf, Avery Lee, and Carmyn Anderson.

“Anderson was in third place when she received the baton and used a gutsy last 100 to outkick the other teams,” head coach Ben Youngs said.

The weightman’s co-ed 4×100 team of Avery Lee, Carter Courtright, Claire Lee, and Alan Haglin took the other first place finish.

“They not only won but set a new meet record, showing that they are amazing athletes, being able to throw shot put and discus and also run very fast,” Youngs said.

Finishing runner-up was the girls 300-meter hurdle team made up of all junior high, new hurdlers including Peyton Walberg, Stephanie Chouinard, and Eve Lang.

The freshman 4×100 meter girls relay of Reese Hartkopf, Claire Lee, Tulenchink and Seyla LeGrande also claimed runner-up honors as did the co-ed varsity 4×100 team of Sydney Breimon, Kingsley Okoro, Avery Lee, and Luke Goelz and the co-ed 4×400 team of Hartkopf, Goelz, Anderson, and Nick Lind.

The Irish hosted their last of five straight meets on Tuesday, April 30. Results were not available at press time.
