The Maple Lake girls and boys track and field teams both finished third at the Central Minnesota Conference Championship meet on Tuesday, May 14 in Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City. Earning all-conference honors by finishing in the top three of their events was Nick Lind, Alan Haglin, Carter Courtright and Kingsley Okoro. Lind finished third in the 1600 and second in the 3200-meter runs; Haglin was third in the 110 -meter hurdles and second in the 300-meter hurdles; Courtright was runner up in shot put and he won the discus throw and Okoro finished first in the 100-meter dash and the long jump.
According to Irish Head Coach Ben Youngs, Okoro’s 100 meter and Courtright’s discus throw were very close to school records. Courtright had personal bests in both throws. Lind had season bests in all three of his events and Haglin continues to drop time coming off an injury, Youngs said. For the girls, Carmyn Anderson, Lauren Anglin, Abby Torblaa, Avery Lee, Avery Rowe and Alex Kiebel earned all-conference honors. Anderson was third in the 400-meter dash; Anglin was third in the 1600-meter run, and she won the 3200-meter run; Torblaa was third in the pole vault and Kiebel was third in the long jump and won the high jump. Avery Lee won the shot put and Avery Rowe won the triple jump. “The girls team had some great performances. We are peaking at the right time,” Youngs said.
