The Irish baseball team went 2-2 last week then fell on Monday, May 13th to the Norwood-Young America Raiders to boost their season record to 5-11.
Holdingford 4, Maple Lake 0
The Irish traveled to Holdingford on Tuesday, May 7th. Holdingford’s big, three-run inning came in the bottom of the fourth then they added one more in the bottom of the fifth.
The Irish had three hits in the game.
Gabe Jurgens pitched six innings for the Irish, gave up 10 hits, four runs and struck out one.
Paynesville 1, Maple Lake 0
The Irish held the bulldogs to one run in the first game of a doubleheader, Thursday, May 9 at Irish Stadium, but Irish bats remained silent as well.
The Bulldogs scored their one and only run right away in the top of the first inning on a home base steal.
The Irish had multiple hits during the game but couldn’t turn any of them into runs.
Nathan Zander pitched just over five innings, gave up five hits and struck out seven. Danny Reilley pitched just over one inning and gave up one hit.
Maple Lake 10, Paynesville 8
Bats got hot for both teams in game two of Thursday night’s doubleheader in Paynesville, but the Irish held out for the win.
The Bulldogs opened with single runs in the bottom of the first and second innings, then the Irish went on a streak, putting up three runs in the top of the third, top of the fourth and another two in the top of the fifth.
Reilley started the scoring when he singled on a ground ball to center field to score Luke Goelz and Joey Gendreau. Wyatt Breimon then singled on a line drive to shortstop to score Zander. Gendreau, Goelz, Zander, Nick Jost, Breimon, Brayden Fobbe, Lane Faue and Reilley all had multiple hits in the win.
Fobbe pitched two innings, gave up six hits, five runs and struck out one. Reilley pitched five innings for the Irish, gave up 10 hits, three runs and struck out three.
