AFCZ Christmas in the summer

By Brenda Erdahl

Action for Children Zambia (AFCZ) is getting ready to send its barrels full of Christmas presents to Carol McBrady’s children in Zambia, Africa and everyone is welcome to participate.

This is a yearly event and an annual highlight for both the children of AFCZ and those who give. Barrels will be packed on July 14th and made ready for their three-to-four-month journey by sea. That means donations need to be dropped off at Betty Thomes’ home in Maple Lake by July 12th. For more information call Thomes at 763-443-9452 or email her at thomesbetty@gmail.com.

AFCZ is looking for donations of both goods and cash to make this great event happen again.

“There is pure joy in giving a child their very first Christmas gift and new, never been worn, clothes. This event helps to make us a family and set a firm foundation for all our children. We will have about 150 children for Christmas Eve and over 350 for our Christmas feast with our neighbors. It’s a wonderful way to share God’s love and celebrate all He has done for us,” organizers said.

AFCZ currently has need of 150 gifts to ensure that everyone receives a present on Christmas morning. They are looking for small gifts for children aged six to 20, mostly boys; gifts for older guys such as tools, flashlights, baseball caps, and gifts for older girls such as jewelry, journals, nail polish and perfume. Arts and crafts materials, sweets and candy, new socks and underwear and books for all ages also make great gifts.
