My daughter and I enjoyed watching a Wood Duck parade last week when the Mother Duck called her ducklings out of the wood duck house on Rick Heberling’s property just acrosss Linden Ave. No. from our house. Anna said there were roughly 20 ducklings all in a straight row behind the hen. We assumed there must have been more than one hen laying eggs! From the little we know about Wood Ducks is the mother hen knows when it’s time to vacate the nest and lead the ducklings to water. This group followed the hen between our house and the next house south heading along Hwy, 55 toward a small pond behind H & H Sport Shop I think! I didn’t see them cross the highway, but it’s apparently important they get to water soon after leaving the nest, both for their safety and for food.
