Jean Loretta Becker was born on the family’s beloved farm near Cold Spring on October 9, 1940, to Medardus and Bertha (Philippi) Backes. She grew up in Cold Spring, where she was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Jean graduated with the Class of 1958 from St. Boniface High School in Cold Spring. On August 8, 1959, she married the love of her life, John Becker. Early on in their marriage they resided in the metropolitan area, eventually settling down in Maple Lake. Together, they raised six boys and one girl; there was never a dull moment. They enjoyed the lake life, spending many late nights laughing and horsing around with their cabin neighbors who became lifelong friends. Jean dedicated 27 years working as an assembly worker at Honeywell, she retired in 1995.
Jean had a strong Catholic faith and found solace in spending time in the adoration chapel praying for others. She was a faithful member of St. Timothy Catholic Church in Maple Lake.
Jean was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and member of the community. She enjoyed dancing, playing the piano, and losing herself in a good book. Jean kept an impeccable house and could make a delicious meal out of anything. Jean’s honesty, sass, lack of a filter, spirit, warm smile, and loving presence will be deeply missed.
Jean is survived by her husband of 65 years, John; their children, John (Elham) of Broomfield, CO, Dave (Joan) of Maple Lake, Doug (Diane) of Lafayette, TN, Steve (Laura) Silver Creek, Troy (Barb) Maple Lake, Tammy (Rick) of Maple Lake, and Ken of Monticello; daughter-in-law, Carol (Roger) of Silver Creek; 14 grandchildren, Aleah Becker, Sabrina Becker, Jaden Becker, Hannah Jude, Joel Becker, Ashley Brinkmann, Austin Becker, Anna Becker, Lindsey Farnick, Dan Becker, Amanda Reinschmidt, Megan Schaust, Rachel Caylor, and Sam Schaust; 22 great-grandchildren with 1 on the way; sisters-in-law, JoAnn Becker, Bernie Backes, Mary Backes, and Marcy Backes; brother-in-law, Ed Cotter; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Madardus and Bertha Backes; siblings and their spouses, Daniel (Vivian) Backes, Willard Backes, Walter Backes, Allen Backes, Timothy Backes, Vera (Alcuin) Scherer and Mary Cotter.
