Storytime is back at the Maple Lake Library along with lots of other fun activities to get the kids out of the house and away from screens this summer.
The storytime program started in early June and has been drawing a nice sized group of youngsters thanks to the storytelling abilities of volunteers Cadence Pipenhagen and Cindy Miessen.
Families can find them at the library most Wednesdays out of the month, prepared with a good picture book and related craft that will keep the kiddos occupied and often learning something new for a portion of the morning. On occasion the local Readers Theatre will step in. This is a group of volunteers aged 55 and older that specialize in bringing stories to life using expressive, fluent and understandable reading as the characters from children’s stories. They encourage students to use the magic of their imaginations and really listen for understanding.
The AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP sponsors this newly formed group in the Wright County area to share the joy of reading at libraries and schools.
In fact, the Readers Theatre will be at the library next week, Wednesday, July 3 from 10:30 to 11 a.m. reading three books: “Pout Pout Fish,” “The Sneeches” and “One.” Families can register at www.maplelakelibrary.org.
Other Storytime dates are July 10, 24 and 31 and August 7, 21 and 28. Library volunteers said walk-ins are welcome, but registering is helpful in planning craft projects. All Storytime sessions begin at 10:30 and end at 11 a.m.
On June 17th, Wright County Dairy Princess Malorie Thorson and Ambassador Sophie Salmela visited the Maple Lake Library for an Ice Cream Social in honor of June Dairy Month. They read a book, completed a craft and gave away free ice cream.
