When Mr. Haws, guidance counselor, learned I wanted to teach, he asked what subject. I told him I really like geography and history. He said if I wanted to teach geography, I had to go into elementary education. If I wanted history, I would not get a job unless I coached a sport.

That’s how I became an English teacher. In spite of terrible handwriting and spelling I became one. I love to read, and understanding an author requires an understanding of the history of the era. It turned out well. I even improved my writing skills by teaching writing.
