Cayden Courtright scored Maple Lake’s only touchdown in a 44-6 loss to Royalton on the road last week.
The Irish traveled to Royalton on Friday, Sept. 13 for the conference match-up where they faced the then 0-2 Royals.
The Royals scored early in the first quarter on a 30-yard touchdown and didn’t look back. Down 36-0, Courtright put the first points on the board for the Irish when he scored a 1-yard touchdown to start the third quarter. The Irish failed to convert the extra points.
The Royals answered with a final 53-yard touchdown in the same quarter to make it a 44-6 game. The fourth quarter was scoreless.
Highlights for the Irish include Brock Elston’s 18 passing yards, Joe Aasen’s 92 rushing yards and 9 receiving yards.
The Irish continue to run the ball well but needs to work on controlling the football and creating turnovers on defense, Irish Head Coach Mike Rowe said.
