The Maple Lake High School volleyball team won its first home match of the season last week.
The Irish invited Dassel-Cokato to town for its home opener on Tuesday, Aug. 27. This was the home team’s second outing of the season. The week prior, they went 1-3 at a tournament in Albany.
Both teams were encouraged by a large, and loud, following of fans.
After dominating the first two sets (25-17 and 25-12) the Irish came up short in the third (19-25) to require a fourth set, which the Maple Lake team won 25-14. The final match score was 3-1 in the home team’s favor.
Senior outside hitter Avery Lee went 15 for 7 serving for the Irish. She also had 11 kills, 16 assists and 21 digs.
Senior outside hitter Alex Kiebel went 16 for 19 serving for the Maple Lake team with two aces, 12 kills, 13 assists, nine digs and one block.
