The young Maple Lake football team had its work cut out for it last week when it took on conference rival Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City in its first outing of the 2024 season.
The Irish gridders traveled to ACGC High School on Thursday, Aug. 29 where they fell 28-6 to the more experienced Falcons.
The Irish made some rookie mistakes that cost them, Coach Mike Rowe said.
On the upside, defensively the Maple Lake team created two turnovers and offensively, the Irish were able to maintain possession.
The lone touchdown came from sophomore Joseph Aasen in the third quarter. Other highlights include Brock Elston’s 11 passing yards, Aasen’s 84 rushing yards and Ethan Paumen’s 11 receiving yards.
