On Thursday, Oct. 17, Wright and Sherburne counties along with the Sherburne County Area United Way are going to partner to conduct a Community Connect event from 2 to 6 p.m. at Big Lake Middle School (601 Minnesota Ave.) during the long MEA weekend.
The Community Connect program and programs similar to it have been around for more than 10 years with various Minnesota United Way chapters. When Sherburne County began its program, it was called Project Homeless Connect – and provided resources for those experiencing homelessness. The program morphed into dealing with individuals and families in dire need of resources that didn’t have channels to access these programs without being homeless.
This free event puts residents in touch with vendors who provide services, free winter clothes (coats, hats, shoes, socks, boots, etc.), free essential household items from dozens of vendors, free food will be provided, free access to community resources in both counties and free rides to and from the event – calling Trailblazer Transit at (888) 743-3828 in Wright County and Tri-Cap
