Taking a Bite out of Hunger

By Brenda Erdahl

For the second year in a row, Kenyon Kingsbury is asking folks to give a little back while out trick-or-treating this Oct. 31st.

The 2022 Maple Lake High School graduate is raising food for the local food shelf with her second annual Take a Bite Out of Hunger campaign. She invites families out trick-or-treating on Halloween to drop off non-perishable food items at her house. Hers is the white two-story home on the corner of Rose Avenue South and Division Street East near the roundabout in Maple Lake, but if there is any doubt, it can also be recognized by the elaborate Halloween decorations and of course the sign in the front yard.

“It’s a good opportunity to teach kids how to give back,” Kingsbury said.

There is a tote in her front yard where donations can be placed anytime from now until Nov. 7, but her big push is Halloween when the streets will be crowded with costumed trick-or-treaters.
