Marilyn Margaret Paumen was born to John and Alma (Uecker) Paumen on November 10, 1941 in St. Cloud. Except for 3 years in St. Michael, MN she lived her life in Maple Lake. She was a lifelong member of St. Timothy’s Parish and was a member of the first 5th grade class at St. Timothy’s School. Marilyn graduated with the Class of 1959 from Maple Lake High School.
On Sept 13, 1958, Marilyn was united in marriage to Roger J. Wurm. To this union six children were born. To help take care of the feeding and clothing of a large family Marilyn worked in many places in Maple Lake. She started her long working career at the age of 13 working for Mueller Theater. From there her work activities included waitressing/bartending at Maple Lake Cafe, H&H, White Drive Inn, Maple Lake Liquor, and manager of the Maple Lake Legion Post 131. She was a grocery clerk at Andys Red Owl, Knaus Sausage House, and Holmquist. When her youngest child started school, she started driving for Mooney Bus which she did for many years. She also worked in the Maple Lake school system in the food service and as a 7 and 8th grade basketball coach. In 1990, she entered the manufacturing world at Wagner Spray Tech. By going back to school she went on to become a Quality Tech, ISI coordinator, and QA Inspector; it was here she developed her computer skills. She ended her working career at the age of 75 at Pace Industries/Product Technologies where she was a Document Controler, Quality Technician, and Safety Coordinator.
Marilyn volunteered to be a Cub Scout leader, Girl scout leader, with the Queen committee, and at St. Benedict’s Monastery. She was the family historian and worked for many years searching family histories for her Paumen and Uecker relatives. Her library of photos and relatives is quite extensive. She was generous with her information and shared with all who asked. She was one of the organizers for the many family reunions that were held. Besides genealogy her other hobbies were crocheting, sewing, reading, puzzles, flower gardens, and travel. Marilyn’s 4 trips to Europe were a highlight; in Belgium she connected with her Paumen relatives and they in turn visited Maple Lake.
Marilyn enjoyed sports and was privileged to follow her 6 children and 5 grandchildren, who lovingly called her Gramcracker, in their various events and milestones. Marilyn was a member of the Thomas Marine softball team for many years and was able to play with all 4 daughters and 2 sisters. She also had a special place for the 10 great-grandchildren she was blessed with.
Marilyn is survived by her children, Roger (Charlene), Margaret OSB, Marion (Jeanne Stratton), Monica Scheiber (Ross Berglove), Marsha (Robert) Ergen, and Rodney; grandchildren, Josh (Staci) Wurm, Mandy Wurm (Ryan McIntosh), Jessica (Michael) Zacharias, Kayla (Jake) Elsenpeter, and Kevin (Melissa) Scheiber; step-grandchildren, Josh, Jamie, Ryan, Tyler, and Hailey; great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Kash Wurm, Lucas , Lauren and Logan Elsenpeter, Hunter, Emmy, and Whitney Scheiber, Emelia and Olivia Zacharias; siblings, Dennis (Mary) Paumen, William (Phyllis) Paumen, Joni (Jeff) Whittaker, and Fred (Virginia) Paumen.
