So many times, I find it is the little things I do that make a difference in how successful I am on the ice. Subtle changes in your approach can have a major impact on the final results.
First off, let me say that I am not the super ice fishing expert that out fishes everyone on the lake. There are plenty of other anglers that would put me to shame. However, there are also plenty of anglers that could be a lot more successful on their panfish outings by fine tuning their approach.
Equipment is a place to start. Since all ice fishing is done through a hole in the ice, the tool that is used for cutting is important. If searching for fish is a painful and cumbersome process, anglers won’t do it. Whether you cut with gas or electric, augers must be sharp and easy to use.
