In a match-up featuring two teams listed in The Guillotine’s “Lean and Mean” portion of the Class AA rankings, the Lightning made the trip to Hutchinson to face the Hutchinson/Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart Tigers on Thursday, Jan. 9.
Giving up seven losses– all by pin– the Lightning fell into a 42-15 deficit that was too big to overcome in an eventual 42-31 Wright County Conference loss.
“That is something we have to prevent. Not all fault fell on our kids–the Tigers have legitimate hammers who do pin on a regular basis,” Lightning Head Coach Ben Youngs said via email about his team’s losses by pin. “However, it’s not uncommon to have bonus points separate wins from loses, so we need to continue to work on preventing pins in matches we lose.”
While the Tigers did earn seven pins, the Lightning did secure six wins all of the bonus point variety as well– a positive for the Lightning, Coach Youngs highlighted.
