Irish two games in girls’ basketball action

Shooting woes and an opponent with a stingy defense led to Maple Lake’s lopsided 59-26 loss to Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City to start off last week’s competition. Three days later the Irish met a similar end at Paynesville.

Monday night’s (Jan. 27) on-the-road game was the second meeting for the Irish and Falcons. Last time the Irish were a mere one bucket away from a victory when the final buzzer went off. This time around, it was a different story.

“AC-GC has been playing well and is solid on the defensive end,” Irish Head Coach Adam Ronnenberg said. The Falcons’ defensive pressure impacted the Irish heavily and led to easy scoring opportunities for them. Meanwhile, the Irish struggled to find an offensive rhythm throughout the game. The Falcon’s defense forced the Irish to attack far away from the basket and the Irish had no answer, Ronnenberg said.
