Old convent goes to parish

By Brenda Erdahl

The story of the building at 207 Division Street East – most recently the Maple Lake Recovery Center – has come full circle with its recent sale to St. Timothy Parish.

The parish built it as a convent for the sisters teaching at St. Timothy School in 1957 then sold it in the 1980s. It changed hands multiple times before going on the market again shortly after the Covid Pandemic.

“It’s wonderful to have it back,” said Father John Meyer, pastor at St. Timothy Parish.

Although the church doesn’t have definitive plans yet for the building’s future, it completes the parish campus which consists of the church, parish house and school. He said the parish has had its eye on it for a few years now and last fall was able to purchase it for a good price.
