I Love to Read Month wrapped up at Maple Lake Elementary School with a trip to the movies, popcorn and soda.
Students kicked off February with the goal of earning 4,000 points, points that could only be accumulated by reading every day then answering questions to prove it. The reward for their efforts was a trip to the Monticello Movie Theatre.
By the end of the month the students had met their goal and the entire school population – 420 people to be exact – piled onto busses and headed to the movies to watch Paddington in Peru. It took three theatres to fit them all, organizer Sarah Thomas said, and every student received a box of popcorn and a drink.
