Maple Lake Elementary School celebrated its 20th year of the popular Battle of the Books last week.
Every fall, students in grades two through six have the opportunity to sign up for this competitive but fun event that challenges them to read up to 10 books then get up on stage to be quizzed about what they read. The final round features a buzz-in contest that always stirs up a lot of excitement.
Organizer Sarah Thomas said they had higher participation numbers than in years past and some great battles last week.
