Maple Lake has two athletes on the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted/Maple Lake boys varsity golf team this year – Larson Melgaard and Brayden Fobbe.
The team got off to a good start on April 8 when they won a dual against Dassel-Cokato (171 to 173) and Melgaard and Fobbe were the leaders.
Fobbe posted the top score of 40 and Melgaard claimed the next lowest score of 43. Howard Lake teammates Samuel Lueck and Nolan Granum shot 44s, Kaleb Anderson shot a 51 and Caleb Boese shot a 52.
On April 10, Melgaard and Fobbe won a partner tournament at Timber Creek by shooting a 71(-1). It was six holes best ball, six holes alt. shot and six holes scramble.
On April 14th the team traveled to Litchfield for an invitational and finished eighth out of 14 teams with a score of 348 on the 18-hole course.
Melgaard led with an 83; Fobbe shot an 84; Granum shot an 85; Lueck and Anderson both shot a 96 and Boese shot a 97.
The local team will play next at Albion Ridges on Wednesday, April 23 starting at 3:10 p.m.
