Seidl wins “superbowl” of wrestling

By Brenda Erdahl

At nine years old, Henry Seidl is a bit of a savant when it comes to the sport of wrestling.

He can watch a Gophers match and perform what he saw on TV the next day at a practice or a tournament, his dad Todd said. Then he goes around and helps his teammates learn it too.

Henry is a third grader at Maple Lake Elementary School, a wrestler on the Annandale-Maple Lake youth wrestling team and earlier this month won the “Superbowl” of youth wrestling when he took home the coveted Trinity Award at Reno Worlds in Reno, Nevada.

In the world of youth wrestling, few honors are as prestigious — or as difficult to earn — as The Trinity Award. To win it, Henry had to win his weight class (8U, 85 pounds) at three premier national tournaments in the same season: The Kickoff Classic Nationals in Tulsa, the Tulsa Nationals in Oklahoma and Reno Worlds in Nevada. The series started in November and wrapped up April 3-5 at Reno Worlds.
