Rain slightly re-arranged the schedule of activities for the first Armed Forces Day Celebration hosted by the Maple Lake VFW, but couldn’t stop the May 21 event. The activities included a POW-MIA Tribute Ride, a pancake breakfast, a porkchop feed, a silent auction, live music and door prizes. A flag retirement ceremony conducted by area Boy Scouts was delayed for an hour when rain began again at about 5 p.m., but the Scouts persevered and conducted the ceremony an hour later. More photos from the event appear on page 10 of this week’s Messenger.
