Hello Snow!

The first storm of the 2014-15 winter season left over a foot of snow in the Maple Lake area, winds gusting to 25 mph, schools closed and Minnesotans wondering if we’re in for a repeat of last winter’s snow and cold nightmare.
Winter storm Astro, so named by the Weather Channel, dropped up to two inches of snow per hour  throughout Central Minnesota, depositing high single and double digit amounts in several nearby cities,  Annandale: 11”, Monticello: 9.4”, Kingston: 10” and St. Augusta:  a record breaking 16.5”. The last time Central Minnesota had substantial and measurable snow this early in Novermber was the 7.7” received on November 13, 2010.
As the snow diminished on Tuesday, it was quickly followed by the biggest weather story of this week- the arctic blast that will drop daytime temperatures into the lower 20s and sending overnight lows into the teens and single digits through the weekend.
Can you say Polar Vortex?
