Brynn Paumen’s combination of height, athleticism and competitive drive made her a stand-out player on Maple Lake High School’s two-time state championship volleyball team. This fall she will take those qualities to the next level. Paumen, a senior at MLHS, has been awarded a full scholarship to Missouri State University where she will play Major Division 1 volleyball in one of the country’s five elite conferences, the SEC (South Eastern Conference). As far as Maple Lake Activities Director Tim Tungseth knows, Paumen is the first student athlete from MLHS to compete in a Major Division 1 Conference with a full scholarship. “I am really excited to play at the next level and I can’t wait to be a Tiger,” Paumen said. Paumen started playing volleyball in the fifth or sixth grade, making varsity for the Irish as a freshman. She was part of the 2014 team that finished fourth at the state tournament; the 2016 team that won its first state title; and the 2017 team that defended its title and did it with a perfect 36-0 season record. She joined the JO MN Select traveling volleyball league in Maple Grove to improve her volleyball IQ and develop into a higher-level athlete.
