Winter anglers must be getting antsy about getting out and testing their equipment, whether new or gently used. There were about four anglers on Rock Lake Sunday afternoon, one out on the point to the left of the access, two across the lake and one on the north end when I drove out there about 3:30 p.m. One used a snowmobile to get to a spot across from the access, but it appeared the others hoofed it. I’m getting anxious, but discretion is the better part of valor, so I will wait until after the below zero temps promised for Wednesday, Dec. 18. There weren’t any on Ramsey, but numerous on East Maple. In the meantime I picked up a ice fishing gear catalog to find out what winter anglers will need if they were to start from scratch and came up with these items, which I felt were essential. A good pair of boots that will keep your feet dry and socks that will keep them warm.
