Maple Lake Elementary School set a record at their annual Scholastic Book Fair fundraiser last week. The school collected a little over $9,000 in sales and $4,000 will come back to benefit students and teachers at MLE.

Last year’s high of $6,000 exceeded the previous year’s record by about $200, but this year’s revenues blew that accomplishment out of the water.

“It was crazy successful,” said MLE Media Specialist Sarah Thomas who organizes the event.

Much of the money that the school gets back from Scholastic will go toward new books for the school library, but Thomas said she can also use those funds for furniture in the library and prizes for I Love to Read Month.

About 15 volunteers helped make the event a success and $500 was raised for the All for Books fund which helps buy books for students who can’t afford them. Parents were also very generous when it came to buying books for teachers to keep in their classroom, Thomas said.

“There was never a down time, the Book Fair was packed throughout both nights of conferences and during the day. That was great,” Thomas said. “I had so many volunteers this year. That was so helpful. I couldn’t have done it by myself.”
