Brute’s Blea

Maple Lake’s Retired Firemen were guests of the fire department for a hamburger, sweet corn, beans, coleslaw, etc. with a delicious dessert (which I understand was prepared by Jeanette Lauer, wife of the late fireman Ron Lauer, who has continued to make desserts for the department since his death). The meal was prior to the department’s regular meeting and that gave the group an opportunity to visit, etc. Bubba Polsfuss and Joe Rassat showed their skill at cribbage and defeated John Erger and Tom Neu coming from behind by 16 holes. Rassat said Bubba carried him!

A colorful mural on the meeting room wall done by Jane Decker showed her deep involvement in the community. Needless to say, a good time was enjoyed by all.

Ramsey lake is getting a new boat launching ramp according to Ron Hegle who fishes that lake often for crappies. He said the new ramp should take the hump out of the concrete apron. Crappie fishing on Ramsey has been good  to him and on a recent outing during the dog-days of summer he had several over 12 inches.

Friday’s thunder boomers and lightning produced anywhere from an inch to 1.5 inches of rain in Maple Lake over a one or two hour period by 9 a.m. which helps make up for the dry periods we’ve been having. It should help put some water in the local lakes, some of which needed it for pontoon owners to get their pontoons off their lifts.
