The Maple Lake boys’ and girls’ cross country teams kicked off their season on Friday, Sept. 2 with their one and only home meet of the season.

The Irish hosted nine other teams at Ney Park and more than 300 runners in multiple races.

Nick Lind posted the fastest finish for Maple Lake, running the challenging 5K in a time of 19:22.2 for 20th place out of 68 runners in the varsity competition.

Abby Gindele was the top finisher for Maple Lake girls varsity. She ran the 5K in 26.32.3 for 39th place.

According to coach J McClelland, nearly every Maple Lake runner significantly bettered their time trial finishes on what was probably  the most challenging course they will see all season.

The Irish are set to race again on Thursday, Sept. 8 in Royalton.
