The Wright County Board of Commissioners approved an amendment to the solid waste ordinance, Tuesday, Oct. 25 at its regular meeting, that will require solid waste haulers to purchase a license starting in 2023.
The basis for the ordinance change, according to Planning and Zoning Administrator Barry Rhineberger, comes from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. In an effort to understand how much solid waste is being generated and how much of it is being recycled, the State requires counties to license their haulers or risk losing $400,000 in funding.
As part of the approval process, commissioners held a public hearing on the matter before casting their vote. When no one stepped forward to address the issue, commissioners approved it unanimously.
