At its most recent meeting, Monday, November 14, the Maple Lake School Board heard and accepted the school district’s annual financial audit as prepared by Schlenner Wenner & Co., presented by Certified Public Accountant Ashley Meagher.
Meagher told the board the audit had been performed in accordance with government standards and that the report was a “clean,” or unmodified, opinion – meaning that the financial statements had been fairly presented.
She mentioned a single material weakness in the area of internal controls: an insufficient segregation of duties, which is a common feature in small school districts across the state.
A trend analysis of pupil units showed a slight increase over the past year, with a count of 800 as of June 30, 2022, as compared to 775 on the same date 2021, but falling short of the 829 recorded in 2020.
