The Maple Lake boys’ basketball team played a grueling three games last week, all of which resulted in losses. But a hard-fought game in Foley on Monday of this week showed them how much potential they have.

Maple Lake 43, Holdingford 72

The Irish started on Tuesday, Jan. 24, at home against Holdingford. The Irish played competitively but found themselves down 21-35 at halftime. In the second half, the Huskers lengthened the lead to 72-43 and that’s where it ended.

“We matched up well tonight and played competitively”.  “We are looking forward to seeing them again this season,” Maple Lake Coach Bryan Schleif said.

The Irish played hard again, Thursday, Jan. 26 at Long Prairie-Grey Eagle High School, but they got into foul trouble early with both Jacob Weese and Marcus Weimer fouling out.

“When you are already thin due to injuries, that’s not a good combination,” Coach Schleif said.

Despite the foul trouble, Coach Schleif said the Irish played hard all the way to the end.

Maple Lake 37, Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 84

The Irish traveled to Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City High School on Friday, Jan. 27. By this time, the busy week had started to take its toll.
