We recently lost a veteran who was just a few short months of turning 100 years old. This man was so dedicated to helping veterans and had been a life long member of the VFW. He was a proud member of the Honor Guard and helped with so many activities that were sponsored by the VFW. From helping cater a weekly fish fry or wedding, to standing on a corner in May distributing the Buddy Poppy to remember all the veterans who have gone before him. No matter what the job…he was there to help. So I say lets honor this man and all the other men and women who have served our country by stepping up and getting involved in making life brighter for a veteran. One hour a month is all it takes. The VFW Post 7664 meets at the Maple Lake American Legion at 7PM on the 3rd Wed of each month. I encourage every man or woman who is eligible to join a VFW to do so. You won’t be given a job and you won’t be asked to do a lot of work. They just need your support and ideas to share. Those of you who are already on the roster…it would be great to see you again and maybe make some new friends or visit with your old ones. The future of the Maple Lake VFW is in your hands.
