I always enjoy reading The Maple Lake Messenger, as it’s nice to keep up-to-date on what’s happening around our community. Yes, this includes the “letters to the editor.” I am a person who values what other people think and feel, which is partly why I’ve worked in a helping profession my entire adult life. Further, I feel it’s important for us to listen to and try to understand others, especially, and maybe even more so, when we don’t agree. I’ve been saddened by the letters sent over the past few months by those who feel the need to belittle and bully others for their views and comments. This behavior is nothing short of an attempt to shame and silence others. In a world full of hate, violence, and division, can we please be respectful of one another? I believe that we have more in common than differences. However, we have to be willing to listen and see them. Disagreement is fine, but it’s so much more effective and helpful when it’s done in a decent and humanly fashion.
