A beautiful morning in Maple Lake led to a steamy afternoon for the 12th annual Gear-Head Get Together but the heat didn’t take away from the much loved event that organizers said drew the biggest crowd yet.
Last year organizers estimated there were about 1,400 vehicles on display. It was evident this year’s event surpassed that by how much more space had to be utilized, Scott Chantland said.
“We were filling in spots we haven’t had to use in the past,” he said.
For instance, last year the Gear-Head Committee was given permission to use the St. Timothy School parking lot, but it really wasn’t needed. This year, every parking space was filled with vehicles and at the last moment, a radio-controlled mini demo derby was organized at that site.
The 12th annual Gear-Head Get Together drew the biggest crowds yet Saturday, Aug. 19, in Maple Lake. Organizers estimated more than 1,500 vehicles, rat rods, motorcycles and gear-head oddities were on display for state-fair sized crowds that filled the city streets, parking lots and parks in and around downtown Maple Lake.
