At their most recent meeting, Tuesday, July 25, the Wright County Board of Commissioners appointed Chad Hausmann as the new Wright County Highway Engineer effective Jan. 22, 2024.
Hausmann will replace Virgil Hawkins who is retiring in 2024.
Hausmann, who currently serves as the Assistant Highway Engineer at the County, has 26 years of professional engineering experience and 24 of that is supervisor experience, Assistant County Administrator Marc Mattice told the board Tuesday.
Administration, including Hawkins, have been working on a transition plan to make the change go smoothly so the county can continue to have one of the best highway systems in the state, Mattice said.
Mattice and commissioners thanked Hawkins for his many years of service and the “great” work he has done with the highway department over the years.
“Virgil was one of a kind, he has big shoes for you to fill, but Chad, I think you can do it. I’m very honored to bestow the title of highway engineer on you come the first of the year,” Commissioner Darek Vetsch said.
“I don’t take this position lightly,” Hausmann said. “I realize the work that went into and the work that needs to be done to continue what we’ve been doing. I look forward to working with the board for a long time.
The position of highway engineer is a four-year term, effective for Hausmann from Jan. 22, 2024, to April 30, 2028.
